Named Collections
NAMED COLLECTIONS are the major building
blocks of the National Equal Justice Library and are intended to honor the
donor or whomever the donor designates for his or her commitment to the legal
services, defender or pro bono movements.
Named Collections can be donated in a variety of ways:
a law firm may wish to donate a Named Collection
in honor of one of its partners or the firm itself to commemorate this
commitment.
a group of firms may wish to combine to donate a
Named Collection honoring a lawyer in the community who has made
significant contribution to these movements or to honor the jurisdiction
itself for the collective public service of its lawyers through
representation of the poor, including legal services attorneys, defenders,
private lawyers, academics and others.
corporate law departments, bar associations, bar
foundations, and law schools may wish to donate Named Collections in
the name of the organization or an individual it considers worthy of the
honor.
Examples of the types of collections of interest
include, but are not limited to:
Early History of the Civil Legal Aid Movement in the
United States (circa 1876-1919)
Pre-Gideon History of Public Defense and
Representation of Criminal Defendants (prior to 1963)
Oral History Collections with Those Involved with the
Development of Legal Services, Defender, and Pro Bono Movements
Client Organizations and Their Contributions to the
Representation of the Poor
All donations are welcome!
